About Us

My name is Wanda Bracero, and I am deeply committed to serving my community. One day, my husband Carlos and I took a drive to Humboldt Park, and we were struck by the sight of many people living in tents. It was a moment that changed our lives. As we sat eating from a food truck, I could not shake the thought of those around us who were hungry and without the means to buy food. That is when I felt a calling to help. With my husband's support, we decided to act. We bought supplies and made sandwiches, adding chips, cookies, and water to create meal containers. Each container also included a scripture card with Isaiah 41:10: "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand". After praying for the food and for guidance, we headed back to Humboldt Park. We were welcomed warmly, and it was a joy to see the happiness and gratitude on everyone's faces as we handed out the meals. We listened to their stories, offered prayers, and shared moments of genuine connection. Our mission has grown since that first day. We continue to bring meals and hope to those in need throughout Illinois, building relationships and spreading the message that they are not alone. With God's will, we aim to keep feeding both body and spirit, showing love and compassion to our neighbors.

And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard.

Volunteer Opportunities

Eligibility: Anyone with a desire to help can become a volunteer at our food pantry! Common eligibility criteria and responsibilities are as follows:

Age: Volunteers must be sixteen or older. If under 18, they must have parental consent or be accompanied by a parent.

Commitment: One-time volunteers, or a regular commitment to weekly or monthly are welcomed.

Food Sorting and Packing:

Sort and pack food donations for distribution.
To ensure food items are not expired and are in good condition.

Distribution Assistance:

Help distribute food to clients.
Help clients in selecting food items, like grocery store experience.

Inventory Management:

Keep track of food supplies and report shortages.
Organize and restock shelves.

Food Rescue:

Pick up food donations from local grocery stores or restaurants.
Transport rescued food to the pantry.

Administrative Support:

Help with fundraising and community outreach efforts.

Special Events:

Set up tents, tables, chairs, Serve meals, support food drives, fundraising events, and community outreach programs.

Volunteering at a food pantry is a rewarding way to give back to the community and help those in need.
